DAV files are video recordings extracted from various devices, most commonly surveillance camera storage systems. These files are usually retrieved after an incident or for review purposes.

When you first extract DAV files, you might notice they don’t play on standard video players like VLC, Windows Media Player, or Movies & TV on Windows 10. Don’t worry — the problem isn’t with your extraction process. The issue lies in the file format itself, which isn’t natively supported by common video players.

The only way to view these videos is to convert them from .DAV to more universal formats such as .AVI or .MP4.

There’s a lightweight, portable program (no installation required) that can handle this conversion quickly and efficiently. It converts all kinds of video and audio formats in just seconds — without losing quality. I’ve personally used it for a long time, and it’s incredibly reliable.
